PRESBIOPIA - SINTOMI

PRESBYOPIA - SYMPTOMS

Presbyopia is a visual defect related to the aging of the eye, which causes difficulty in focusing on near objects. It usually appears around the age of 40-45 and tends to worsen with age.

This problem is caused by the loss of elasticity of the crystalline lens, the natural lens of the eye, which over time becomes less flexible and has difficulty changing its shape to focus on near things. Those who suffer from presbyopia often find themselves needing to move books, smartphones or other objects away to see them better.

The most common remedy for presbyopia is reading glasses or progressive lenses , which help you see clearly both near and far. There are also solutions such as multifocal contact lenses .

SYMPTOMS OF PRESBYOPIA IN MYOPI

Presbyopia in people with myopia can manifest itself slightly differently than in people without myopia. In fact, people with myopia tend to have better near vision without glasses. This is because their myopic defect allows them to see objects close up well, even without corrective lenses. However, as they age, when presbyopia develops, their ability to focus on near objects worsens as in anyone else.

What happens in detail:

  • If a nearsighted person uses corrective glasses for distance vision, they may need to remove them to read up close, as correcting their nearsightedness with lenses causes their near vision to become blurry.
  • In low- to moderate-level myopes, they may notice a benefit: by removing their distance glasses, they can read without problems, especially in the early stages of presbyopia.
  • As presbyopia progresses, however, even nearsighted people will need specific correction for near vision, such as multifocal glasses, bifocals, or progressive lenses.

In summary, a nearsighted presbyopic patient may notice some initial flexibility in managing near vision, but as the condition progresses, corrective intervention will still be necessary.
